This cute little knife was passed down to the current owner by her father. She knew it wasn’t necessarily a high quality knife, but it was important to her and her family and she wanted to be able to use it for its intended purpose - camping. Unfortunately, it was badly rusted and one side of the handle was missing. She picked out a nice looking burled Honduran rosewood and I ordered it from a knife-making supply store. After disassembling the knife and cleaning out all the rust and gunk, I could see that it had good “bones” and that I would be able to save it for her. The knife and can-opener were pitted, but there was still plenty of good steel left. I used the one remaining handle piece to rough out some pieces from the rosewood, and got to work making it look pretty - well, prettier anyway. After I was done, the knife was good and sharp and the can-opener would actually open cans :-). The customer was very happy with the results, which you can see below.
